When we first bought the Two-Bedroom Cottage, we had just nine weeks to get it in tip-top shape for our first guests who had rented the cottage for Ironman. Let me tell you, nine weeks is not a lot of time. Especially when you’re undertaking your first major renovation project.

I picked a couple of nice sconces from Home Depot and used them for the kitchen and dining room lights. They are super cute but they did not give enough light in the space on their own. I have wanted to replace them ever since.

Fast forward to Summer 2020 and COVID-19. I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on what I want to achieve in the cottage regarding upgrades and changes. After spending a lot of time cooking and in the kitchen, I knew that a new fan and light fixture was at the top of my to-do list.

I did about a week of Google research on the best design, price and delivery schedule out there. Getting deliveries during this time is a big challenge so you have to take that into consideration. Also, booking your favorite electrician is also not an easy task. Summer is a very busy time in the Adirondacks!

Not letting any of that get in my way, I set out to find my favorite new fan and settled on a Westinghouse Roundabout brushed nickel ceiling fan with light. The best deal I found was on Amazon, but you can find it just about anywhere.

It is 30 inches in diameter and hugs the ceiling. Check out more of the specifications here. You can choose all white-finish blades or add color. I chose white, orange and green. The orange and green really stand out and make our orange tea kettle pop! Plus it adds a bit of mid-century modern design to the space, which I love!

The fan took about four hours to install, since our electrician had to get up into the attic to replace the old light. It had been there for years and really needed to be replaced. So we replaced the old wiring with brand new wiring to update the lighting — and got a new fan to boot!

I have to say that it’s made a world of difference. I especially love the fan and the air flow while cooking. And I just love the colors! It’s important to surround yourself with things that make you happy at a time like this. Come check it out for your self when you stay at GO-Cottage!

I just want to congratulate you on the exquisite job you did on the Cottages! Did I mention how dreamy the beds are? I had my best night's sleep in weeks. Ahhhhh Oh my god! I just want to move in today. You have such lovely taste. It has such a peaceful aura. We all had a wonderful stay. Thank you again.
