I don’t know about you, but I love waking up to an airy bedroom surrounded by light. It makes me feel relaxed, comfortable and happy! When we purchased the two bedroom cottage, the bedrooms were not inviting for long naps or lazy mornings. In fact they were downright scary!
The walls were covered in dark smoke stains from the previous tenant, and they were painted shades of pink, blue and dark green – preppy style gone horribly wrong. Hoarding is another word that comes to mind..
On top of that, the floors were covered in carpet that pets had peed on and paced over for 15 years. And the rooms were filled with large cabinets that took over an obscene amount of space.
The back bedroom had an enormous hutch about 7 feet long. It was nearly impossible to move so we had to literally bash it apart in order to remove it completely. That was actually fun to do. Once that old hutch was gone the room felt like it had twice as much space.
We wanted the bedrooms to be as open and fresh as the kitchen we had recently renovated. We scraped the paint and varnish off of the windows and french doors, then covered the frames with fresh, antique white flat paint.
Removing the carpet revealed the most beautiful birds-eye hardwood floors that were already in place. All they needed was a sanding and a varnishing, and they were just like new!
Next, every wall and ceiling was plastered and painted with white and warm white.
While we were renovating, we lived and worked in the cottage. At night I was so exhausted that I would just fall onto the blow up Aero Bed, arms sore from scraping paint for hours on end. But I was so motivated by my vision!
We put the finishing touches on with breezy white linens.
We are so happy with the results, which wouldn’t have been possible without all that hard work. Now the cottage bedrooms are clean, bright, airy, spacious, and inviting! Plus, the beds are as comfortable as clouds. What more could you ask for in a good nights sleep?
