Copyright and Publishing

Monday, December 4th, 2006

Hey Sharon!

How are you doing? I am writing to say hello but also to ask you about self publishing to protect my songs. I have six originals now. Half are cowritten by a guitarist (he wrote the music and I the lyrics). I want to publish asap so I don´t get ripped off. Is there a way other that shelling out $45 to copyright each? Like going under your label perhaps and giving you a small percentage if they ever sell? Let me know. Thank you!
Peace
Saudia

hi saudia,

to answer your question on songs and copyright. are you a member of ascap, bmi or sesac? if so you could “register” your
songs with one of those performing rights society’s which would allow you to start to publishing as soon as it’s registered.  check out ascap.com   and then send in your copyrights (to the united states copyright office, google it) later.
i actually just registered a new tune (with ascap, my society) and it has a “pending” copyright section.
but honestly, if you truly believe in your songs and think they will sell/publish well it is very important to just do the copyright.  i hope this information helps you.
thanks and keep rocking girl!

3 hours with Tony Robbins

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

I was fortunate enough to spend 3 hours of my day last week with Tony Robbins.
Probably the most amazing motivational speaker of all time.  Tony had 15,000 people up on their feet all screaming and hugging each other. We were all total strangers but by the time he was finished it is was as if we all knew each other very well. So I just wanted to share some of what I learned from him on that day.

5 ways to have an extraordinary life

1. Raise Your Standards
2. Turn your “shoulds” into “musts”
3. Shift your identity
4. Create and develop new rituals
5. Who you spend your time with is who you become. Think about this one. We become who we spend our time with the most.

he said that 80% of wealth is physiology.
and that you need to become like a kid again and be fearless. take chances, be resourceful
and that the science of achievement produces the best results.

he said that people feel your motive. this is key!
and to do what matters and make a difference.
not only to succeed but to enjoy it!! feel your success like a kid would.
scream, jump up and down and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

he said that emotion is created by Motion.
that focus = feelings.
and that human being have 65,000 independent thoughts a day.
so don’t get caught up in habitual thinking. because what you think about DOES happen.
and last, Boldness is always rewarded.

best,

Sharon
